But seriously, folks: Erin + Zach

To say the groom’s family at Saturday’s shindig has a serious problem taking anything seriously (except having fun), might imply they ever have a somber moment. I can’t say I wasn’t warned. I photo’d the groom’s sister’s wedding last year and knew what I signed up for. Witness the siblings below, mocking the groom (left) and he, in turn, mocking himself (if that’s possible). I should add that the bride’s family was quietly charming (could have been fear though).

Fun dress shot of the week. This is what happens during quiet times when my mind is allowed to wander and/or wonder.

Zach, with a dramatic turn by his brother and best man, Josh, decided it would be funny to photograph what it would look like if he changed his mind about marriage. Even his running has comic effect.

Can’t make this stuff up. A new one for me: ring instructions for the bride…

…and her reaction when she discovered it. She’s laughing, really.

I can’t tell here if Josh, the next in line to get married, is supervising his little brother or looking for ideas for his wedding. Josh said his wedding will either be in Florida or Argentina. I’m voting for Argentina.

Zach reached his breaking point and decided it was time to go before he got another grandmother kiss. So, like any modern man, he grabbed his bride and gently dropped her in the getaway car. But not before she stole one last kiss from her mom.

Size 17, need I say more? Zach endured dress shoes a couple sizes too small all day so when we escaped to a park for fun photos, he changed into his shiny new Pumas. Dogs that big really suffer in bad shoes.

No, not Pam from The Office (top 10 TV), just Erin in a quiet moment.

Thanks to both families for fun and funny day. See you in Argentina.

EMJ - Once again, you have done a fabulous job! You captured the day in pure form, forever to be tattooed in our memories. The fly on the wall is the best perspective, because no one has a cheesy grin. It is all raw, and perfect!

avs - awesome photographs mark! each one has so much energy!

Mini-Me, but better

My little man, Evan, decided last week that he needed a tie. Heaven only knows where he got that idea, not from me and my wife claims ignorance as well. We’re not stupid parents though. You gotta positively reinforce any idea that doesn’t involve another Spiderman t-shirt or McDonalds. Kelly wasted no time in getting him to a store before he changed his mind. Here he is, in his Sunday best.
(It’s not a clip-on, it’s a zip-on. The small side of the tie has a zipper and it pulls thru the knot. First, plastic corks and now this.)

Carolr - He is so proud and precious. Love it!

FotoBoy - Wow…he looks so much better than that old outdated photo on your website! :)

Is that what you looked like when you had hair on your head? He’s a good looking kid, you should be proud.

So, the question I’m dying to ask. Is this a clip on tie? :)

Thanks for sharing bud!

mindy myers - he is a darling boy.
maybe we can hook him and bad baby up in 20 years?

avs - sharp kid!

A musical interlude

Listen to the girl
As she takes on half the world
Moving up and so alive
In her honey dripping beehive
Beehive
It’s good, so good, it’s so good
So good
-”Just Like Honey” by Jesus and Mary Chain

From the album, “Psychocandy”, one of my desert island discs. The song was featured in the final scene of “Lost in Translation”, a top-10 of all time nominee movie. Don’t argue with me. On either count.

avs - but I want to.

Carly + Kelly: Ames, Iowa wedding photography

There was a lot of smiling going on in Ames on Saturday. A lot of that ear-to-ear grinning was done by the bride, Carly, who never seemed to let the pressure of the day faze her. But there was still plenty of happy faces to go around as her and Kelly’s day was blessed with sunshine and tons of friends and family to see them into their new life as husband and wife.

The ringbearers reflected all the dignity of the occasion but, despite their well-dressed appearance and best efforts, they soon lost control of their faces and turned back into the boys they are.

The flowergirl only made it halfway up the aisle before detouring to the comfort of her favorite stuffed animal and blanket, refuge from the burden of that cute little basket of rose petals.

I’m just guessing but I suspect our bride’s quick smile was inherited from her father, who, like most fathers of the bride, smiled a lot (after the ceremony).

The church, in addition to having yellow stained glass windows, had yellow walls. You can either fight the color or work with it.

En route to the reception and away from the madding crowd, the bridal party took a detour and we made some fun photos at the park and, after some refreshments, in an old phone booth wedged into a bar in Boone.

Great toasts yield great reactions. There was plenty of both at the head table.

The power of images: Watching a slide show celebrating the couples’ lives.

And then things got weird, I mean funky. We call this dancing in Iowa.
